“3 BENEFITS OF KEEPING A JOURNAL”

Many people view a journal as the same thing as a diary – but there is a real fundamental difference!

A diary is used to record external events in your life, but a journal is to record, and *process* your thoughts, feelings and ideas.

The difference can be profound.

CONSIDER THESE 3 BENEFITS OF HAVING A JOURNAL PRACTICE

1. A journal can help you create clarity and perspective. Few of us really take the time to examine our lives. We commonly feel that we either don’t have the time, it won’t be beneficial or it’s simply too uncomfortable. By regularly making an appointment with yourself to work with your journal, you can create the necessary focus to make positive changes in your life.

A journal gives you a space to be totally transparent and honest, and in the process see the truth. We’re all amazing at fooling and distracting ourselves. But when the truth is right before our eyes in black and white, there’s no place to hide.

2. Keeping a journal releases stress. There’s something cathartic about getting your thoughts on paper. It allows you to get all the emotions, hurt or confusion out on paper instead of having it rolling around in your head (and body). In the process it minimizes all the stress hormones and creates a more effective state of mind for solving challenges.

3. A journal provides a means of measuring progress and growth.

Have you ever seen a friend’s child and noticed how much they’ve grown? You wouldn’t notice the growth if you saw that child every day.

Our own personal growth is similar.

So often during our end of year retreat I’ll have participants who can’t recall their progress, their new insights and growth over the course of the year because they haven’t recorded them along the way.

Heck, I can’t tell you how often I get to my end of month review and I’ve already forgotten some of my growth points and highlights!

Life moves SO FAST these days. Writing this stuff down allows you to celebrate that growth throughout the year instead of letting it slip by you.

Acknowledging your personal and spiritual growth is an important element of being a human BE-ing.

Small changes aren’t noticed when you’re exposed to them daily. A journal provides a way of looking back and seeing just how far you’ve come.

Embrace this simple way of acknowledging your WINS so that it helps you keep your perspective when life gets challenging.
