Craft a life you love in 2017
Have you ever wondered what secret successful people utilize in reaching their goals that you don’t?
Take a look at the goals below. What is the one missing element they all have in common?
“Save more, spend less.”
“Pay down debt.”
If you guessed clarity or detail, you’d be partially right.
But the answer is actually deeper than that.
How do these goals feel? Heavy, right?
Do they inspire you? Probably not much.
They all lack soul! There’s no life in them.
And yet, this is how the majority of us craft our goals for the year. Is it any wonder, according to one survey, that the average length of time a person can expect to stick to their goals is around three and a half weeks, or 24 days?
As a human being, every decision and action you take is based on emotion. If you’re a guy, you might want that big screen TV because you want to experience all of the energy of the Super Bowl as if you are actually there. If you’re shopping for clothes, you might secretly want to have all eyes on you at the New Year’s Eve party.
I started the practice of having a theme or word of the year back in 2014. That year my theme was “Expansion”.
WHEW! That was a really big year. I hosted my first global speaker summit, the Conscious 6-Figure Success Summit, which more than tripled my audience and set me on the course for a global reach.
In 2015 my theme of the year was “Co-Create”. I partnered with a number of colleagues on events throughout the year, including eight other colleagues to host our full-day women’s retreat, Transform & Thrive.
This year my theme is “Prosperity”. And indeed, it has been a year of great financial growth; expanding my business in more powerful and enjoyable ways, both for me and for my clients.
So as you begin to contemplate your planning for 2017, think about how you want you to feel. What’s the overriding theme you’d like your year to have? Do you want to feel more at peace? Do you want to have more fun and adventure? Do you want to feel more creative?
When you craft your goals from that place, then your goals will have more passion, and that passion will drive you to keep going, even when it feels hard.
HERE’S HOW TO GET STARTED
To jumpstart your planning, I’ve created a guide to get your juices flowing. It’s a 4-page (fun!) reflection process. You can download it for free by clicking the button below:
I realize that we are embarking on the holiday season and perhaps you might be just a little distracted.
But this goal setting stuff – it takes time!
You need to build in some time to dream and imagine and envision what it is that your spirit, your soul, the deepest part of you wants to bring forth through you in the coming year.
It’s not something that you just sit down and draft out, all in one day. It takes time.
And, this is actually the fun part! This is where you get to dream and have fun playing in the field of possibilities!
So get started now and let your mind percolate in the background for awhile.
Then, on December 10th you can dive deeper when I’ll be hosting my annual Conscious Plan-for-Success Virtual Retreat, an event solely dedicated to supporting you in crafting the life you love in 2017.
If that sounds like something you’d like to participate in, stay tuned. Registration will open soon and I’ll let you know how you can join me in planning your year.
But for now, download the exercise I’ve provided to get you started. Look at your calendar and find a block of time when you can reflect on what you want to create in 2017.
Give yourself permission to connect with your spirit and your heart.
In my next installment, I’m going to explore with you the other critical, but often missed, element in setting goals.
With good energy,
Debra Wilson Guttas, Mid-Life Transition Doula™, HTP
